Exploring the deepest part of the ocean in grade ten.

Diane Lynn McGyverIn grade ten, our English teacher assigned a weekly writing assignment. I know most students didn’t embrace this intrusion to their brains, but as a budding writer, I did. A few months ago, I discovered my old writing journal from that year. Below is one of the essays I wrote.

The Old is Brand New

Would it not be exciting to travel around the world discovering all sorts of things that have been mysteries buried for thousands of years? Archaeology would definitely be a great area to be in. Just to travel all over the world into ancient tombs and long forgotten lands is enough to fill my life. But actually digging up the remains of extinct animals or exploring unexplored caves would be icing on the cake.

I know I have said before that I would really like to travel in space, but there are also many places on Earth that have not been touched by the filthy, greedy fingers of man that would be great fun. Exploring is in my bones, and I have a wild imagination that is why you may think I am crazy by what I am going to say next.

Have you ever been to the bottom of the deepest place in the ocean? No one has. Now who is to say that there is not a totally new and different world down there under the sea. It could explain where the Loch Ness Monster goes for his vacation, and it may lead to some answers dealing with the Bermuda Triangle. Who knows, maybe the island of Atlantis and the continents of Lemuria and Mu were sucked down into this unknown land beneath the sea by a strong, very strong under tow.

A horse which stops dead just before a jump and thus propels its rider into a graceful arc provides a splendid excuse for general merriment. ~ Duke of Edinburgh
