Book 1: Shadows in the Stone

When bandits seize his child, one man sacrifices everything to save her.

The most important thing in Corporal Bronwyn Darrow’s life is rising in the ranks at Aruam Castle. His goal is to be captain of the guard one day. The last thing he needs is distractions. When a woman and a child are forced into his life, tensions escalate, and he’s caught between his drive for promotion and what his heart desires. If you love stories of adventure mixed with magic and romance set in archaic landscapes, you’ll love McGyver’s “Shadows in the Stone”. Unlike many fantasy novels, family plays a central part in this story, so be prepared for the hero to receive unwanted motherly advice.

“Shadows in the Stone” is the first book in the Castle Keepers epic fantasy series. It will introduce readers to a unique cast of characters who want to control their own destiny. Brace yourself for the ride to another time and place.

Growing a Garden in a Fantasy World

Tomatoes and chamomile from my garden.

I’ve read a lot about world building in fantasy lands. Of course, there’s systems to figure out: government, social classes, transportation, money…the list goes on. But for me, one of the most vital components in creating the Land of Ath-o’Lea was where its population got its food.

There’s the usual places: shops and markets in cities, towns and villages. Like in the old west, supply shops on the trail, where travellers stopped, picked up the necessities, usually food, and carried on, are also found in my stories. I call them keeps. Depending on location and how busy it is, there may be an inn, tavern or a place to camp on site.

Given the Land of Ath-o’Lea is in an archaic setting, it’s easy to surmise many inhabitants grow their food. Those in the city may be dependent on the supply chain, but all other areas possess some form of gardening. Not only does it fit into the world, I love gardening, so it gives me a chance to talk about it.

My Author Page at Patreon

What is Patreon? I wondered about this myself until I came across an introductory video that explained it. A long time ago, nobility and aristocrats gained access to artists’ work by financially becoming part of their community. This meant painters had time to create wonderful works of art, musicians could eat while they mastered an instrument, and writers could write those wonderful novels of old and still pay the bills.

The aristocrats and nobility of history no longer exist, but that doesn’t mean what they started is lost. Anyone can take on their role as art patron and join an artist’s community to gain access to awesome stuff.

That’s where Patreon comes in. It connects the art patron with the artist.

On my author page at Patreon, I share scenes from the third book in the Castle Keepers series Revelation Stones (1 scene each Tuesday), articles on my research for the books, short pieces of writing exercises and never-before-published vignettes. There’s also the opportunity to name a character in the book.

My goals are simple: I want to write more and get my books into the hands of readers.

Join me on my journey by visiting my Patreon author page where I am creating traditional fantasy stories.
