Trust me, you don’t want to know anything about this before reading it. I’m sorry to all the men named Ian out there; I had to pick a name for this poor man and…well, Ian was it. More when the release date nears.

Quick Glimpse: Swaths of darkness flashed before Ian; it was as if a black hole wanted to swallow him. The wind from a rush of wings blew his hair from his eyes and stole his breath. He staggered backwards, smashing against the bathroom wall. The screeching noise bouncing around the small room deafened his ears. He swung at the beast, missed, and then decided it was better to run.

He stumbled forward, slipped on the mat and fell, tangling himself in the shower curtain. He jerked backwards and sharp claws clipped the back of his head. His screams did little to unsettle the creature which slowly came into focus. His bare feet stepped in a puddle of white droppings, and he slipped across the floor, coming to rest by the toilet, one hand completely submerged in the watery hole.

Whims of the Wind

Historical Fiction

Predicted Release Date: 2022

Progress: Outline and first chapter completed

A coming of age story set in 1815 on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. It tells the story of a young Scottish girl, a descendant of a soldier who fought in the American Revolution, and who later settled in the province. More when the release date nears.

Quick Glimpse: When Mamma died, I cried, but not from pain, remorse or a longing to see her again. I wept because that was what was expected of a daughter who loved her mother. I shed honest tears for the man I was forced to marry because of my shame, a man who had his own hardships in life, but who had never given me grief or spoken an unkind word to anyone. I missed him when I could no longer look upon his face. Though it was not love that brought us together, it was love that bonded us against those who would see us walk with our heads lowered.

But I was innocent to all these things in 1815, the year I turned fourteen. It was the time when Mamma said my schooling was done; there was no further need to waste my days writing words and numbers, having my head filled with the ideas of others who thought they were better than the folks in Lower Brook. Mamma never cared much for Miss Fraser, our teacher, but I adored her. She was from Halifax, where everything a girl could dream of could be bought for coin.

Mamma said young ladies had no need to dream of fancy dresses and colourful hats; there was too much work to be done. As long as a girl could read and write and had a good head on her shoulders, she’d be useful. What was the good of learning more when a woman’s purpose in life was to tend to her home, her children and her husband?

  1. I am glad to see Book 2 will be released soon. I just finished Shadows in the Stone and loved it! Now I need to read the next one. Will write a review soon. Happy writing!

    1. I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear this, Darlene. Having others enjoy my stories is part of the reason I write (the other reason is because I can’t not write). Thank you for your kinds words.
